To perform MEP BIM Modelling and BIM Coordination for Architectural, Structural and MEP Services along with producing shop drawings.
The client for whom we completed this project is a well-known MEP contractor based in London, UK.
Battersea power station is a well-known landmark in London. It is originally a power station that was proposed to be converted to a 7-storied residential building. The exteriors were proposed to still look like a power station and the interiors were converted into a residential structure.
Tesla’s scope was to create MEP BIM model of LOD 350 and then carry out BIM Coordination and create coordinated Shop Drawings. The client had provided us with the architectural and structural BIM model to carry out BIM Coordination. The other inputs included 3D Design model and equipment schedule to create MEP BIM model and Shop Drawings.
MEP Services provided by Tesla included:
• Mechanical Pipework Layout
• Fire Protection Layout
• High Level Pipework Layout
• Ventilation Layout
• Public Health Pipework Layout
• 3D Revit MEP model
• Coordinated BIM model
• Coordinated Shop Drawings
• The clearance space between the ceiling and slab for running MEP Services was too compact which posed multiple problems with respect to coordination.
• There were no schematics, riser diagrams or pdf binder provided to us by the client, and hence the entire project execution was solely based on our team’s technical expertise and MEP know-how in order to understand refrigerant piping arrangement and riser arrangement, which was time consuming. However, the project was still finished with a quick turnaround time by Tesla’s MEP team.
• The project was initially bound to merely tagging, however with multiple changes in design, the coordination and modeling also had to change, which again had to be updated in the model and coordinated with design within a considerably short period. We successfully completed the task in a record time with the help of our team of experts.
• In the new design, some of the FCUs were re-located to a different location. This created a discrepancy in the access panel location and RCP location of actual model. We raised an RFI and obtained the client’s authorization to change the access panel location.
