Architectural BIM Modeling (CAD to BIM), Europe

Project Highpoints
Project Synopsis
Architectural CAD to BIM project for a government building in Europe
Project Objective

To create an Architectural BIM model of LOD 400 of government building in Europe from the architectural plans, elevations, and sections provided.

Client Summary

The client is a design and construction company in a European country that takes up projects in new construction as well as restructuring in the areas of offices, shops, hotel, logistics, health and housing.

Project Summary

The project was a renovation of a building with 9 floors (3 floors of basement, Ground floor, and 5 floors plus a roof) wherein Tesla had to create an architectural BIM model of the existing facility, the elements to be demolished, and new elements. The client had provided us with a guideline on the modeling rules that needed to be followed.

We had to model the following elements:

  • Rooms
  • Walls
  • Floors
  • False Ceilings
  • Doors
  • Windows
  • Furniture and fixtures

As the project progressed, we were asked to work on the schedules for all the floors.

Challenges

The greatest challenge was to meet the turnaround time. The client wanted us to complete the entire project within 15 days. This was a tough deadline to achieve as

  • The files that were provided to us were in French. We had to translate them to English, which took a lot of our time.
  • The client provided us with a template at the halfway of the project. We had to integrate it in our model. This was a task in itself as the template was in French.
  • We had to generate the schedules for all the floors (this was requested when the project was half-completed). This resulted in additional efforts.

Despite of these challenges, Tesla completed and delivered the model in 15 working days.
